Visit Of Royal Family, A Boost At Wimbledon-Federer

After qualifying for the third round Wednesday afternoon, Roger Federer says having the Royal family around was a great boost to the championship at Wimbledon.
“I’m very happy to have won and to be back on Centre Court. It’s great to have that feeling and to see Charles and Camilla up there is just great for tennis,” said Federer, who outstroked Fabio Fognini, his Italian opponent, who is ranked 68 in the world, 6-1 6-3 6-2 in a second round match this afternoon.
The Swiss faces either American Michael Russell or France’s Julien Benneteau in his next match.
“We were told beforehand that they were coming and we were asked to bow. We said no problem,” Federer said.
The 30-year-old had faced little trouble despatching Spain’s Albert Ramos in the opening round and it was a similar story against Fognini, who Federer had beaten comfortably in their only previous meeting at the Montreal Masters in 2007.
He took just one hour and 19 minutes to see off Ramos and was even more efficient against Fognini, sealing his passage to the next round in 74 minutes.
“I think I played a great first round and great second round and I am very pleased with how I am playing overall,” continued Federer, who is bidding to equal Pete Sampras’ record of seven Wimbledon titles.
Meanwhile, Mardy Fish says he declined interviews after his first-round match at Wimbledon because of a stomach problem related to pain medication he’s taking for his right arm – and not anything related to his heart.
Fish spoke to reporters Wednesday, a day after he beat Ruben Ramirez-Hidalgo in three sets at the All England Club. It marked the 10th-seeded American’s first match since a medical procedure in May to try to pinpoint an accelerated heartbeat.
It was his first competition in about 2 1/2 months.Fish is still working to get his confidence back with regard to his heart.
During a match, he says, “The more you keep your mind off it, the better.”
