3 feared dead in fresh attack in Adamawa

Three persons were feared dead when unidentified gunmen Thursday attacked the Gulak Divisional Police Station in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa state, north eastern Nigeria.

Witnesses said the gun men, who arrived around 3 p.m. used guns and explosives in the attack that lasted for about an hour.

“I saw the bodies of three policemen outside the station, but I do not know whether there are other casualties inside the station, which was completely burnt with all the vehicles parked in the area,” a witness said.

He also said that some of the gunmen entered the nearby First Bank branch, where they snatched a vehicle after abandoning one of the vehicles they came with.

“They went into the bank and snatched a Honda car belonging to a staff of the bank to make their escape. What I am not sure of is whether they robbed the bank or not,” the witness said.

When contacted the Adamawa Commissioner of Police, Mr Mark Idoko, confirmed the incident, but said that he was yet to get full details.

Thursday’s attack is the second of its kind in the local government area.

In March, gunmen attacked Shuwa Village Police Post, killing three policemen and carting away their rifles.
