AAC Meet: Metu Faces S/African Challenge In Final

Nigeria’s fastest man, Obinna Metu, will have South Africa’s Simon Magakwe to contend with in the final of the 100m event of the 18th African Senior Athletics Championships holding in Port Novo, Benin Republic today.

Metu will have to be at his best against the South African, who holds a pre-championships’ best of 10.06s as against Metu’s 10:11s, which he ran to clinch the 100m gold of the 66th All Nigeria Athletics Championship, held at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar, Cross River State recently.

Metu of the Nigeria Prison Service will also seek to equal the feat of Olusoji Fasuba who became the first male sprinter to set a championship record, winning three consecutive 100m titles.

Metu, who is also in the 200m event, will have three South Africans: Anaso Jabodwan (20.32), Simon Magakwe (20.38A) and Thuso Mgwang (20.44A) to contend with.
