A truck in Sokoto has crushed an operative of the NDLEA, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics, Sunday Ogunjemiluwa, and a motorist to death.

The incident occurred at a checkpoint near the Giginya Military Barracks in Sokoto, north west of Nigeria.

The Sokoto State Commander of the NDLEA, Alhaji Musbahu Idris, said the tragedy occurred when the deceased and three other junior operatives were manning a routine road block to check the influx of hard drugs into the city.

“The deceased and three other operatives were searching a vehicle” when the driver of the trailer lost control of the vehicle and crushed the deceased and another motorist to death.

“Both of them died on the spot,’’ the commander said.

He also said that the deceased was reported to have warned the junior operatives to steer clear of the road as the trailer driver had lost control of the vehicle.

Idris told NAN that another officer sustained fractures in his hand and leg as a result of a mob attack on the officials after the incident.

He said that the officer was now receiving treatment at the Uthmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto.

The second operative injured during the mob attack has, however, been discharged after being treated at the hospital.

The mangled remains of both the operative and the motorist were said to have been deposited at the same hospital.

‘’The driver of the trailer is in police net. It is disheartening and we are really bereaved and we are in pains .

“We went for a lawful duty,’’ Idris said.
