Uganda’s Negesa Battles Semenya For 800m Gold

Uganda’s top female athlete Annet Negesa will have to work harder if she is to win the 800m at the 18th edition of the Africa Senior Athletics Championships, which gets underway at the Stade d’Lamite in Porto Novo, Benin.

The current national holder has to battle South African Caster Semenya in the fight for gold in the games.

Semenya looks to add the Olympic gold medal to her 2009 world title and want to use the tourney to gauge herself with just a month to the London 2012 Olympic Games.

She is part of the 75-man team South African team, by far the largest at the games going on in West Africa.

Kenyan Eunice Sum, also a London bound star is in better shape compared to Negesa and Semenya.

“My target is to win an African medal before I go to London” Sum told iaaf.org early this week.
