The Students Union Government (SUG) of Edo state Institute of Technology and Management, Usen, Edo state, has refuted statement by the Edo state police command that students of the institution attacked the convoy of governor Adams Oshiomhole.

The students body which alleged that the attack was political, alleged that those who attacked the governor’s convoy were strategically planted to on the road, adding that the perpetrators were hiding under the cover of students to further their political interest.

The students in a press statement signed by President of the union, Comrade Odeh Osasumwen Ebomwonyi; Secretary General, Comrade Chukwujekwu and others, said the police falsely accused students without proper investigations, an action they described as baseless, totally absurd and false.

“In fact, on the day of the attack, we were patiently waiting for the governor to come into our campus to commission the water project he has constructed for us when we heard gun shots from the palace junction which is about 500 metres from our institution.

“We strongly believe that those who were responsible for that commando-style attack on Mr. Governor’s convoy were strategically planted at the junction of the scene of the attack,” the students alleged.

They argued that the students who were patiently waiting for the governor at their school and did not know the governor’s itineraries could not have gone to the road to attack his convoy.

While calling on students of the institution to return to school as management of the institution has reopened for academic activities, the students warned would-be trouble maker to stay away from the school, adding that the students union will work in conjunction with security agencies and Usen vigilante group to ensure there is peace on the
campus.
