Organisers of the Senator Anthony Adefuye Secondary Schools Volleyball Championship were forced to suspend the competition due to incessant rainfall in Lagos since last week.
The competition, which started on Wednesday was supposed to end on Friday, but the officials of Lagos State Volleyball Association could not go ahead with the tourney at the Volleyball Court of Rowe Park, Yaba on Thursday and Friday because of the heavy downpour. This however forced the organisers to postpone the school sports championship till a later date.
Chairman of the Lagos State Volleyball Association, Owolabi Martins confirmed to P.M.Sports that they could not allow the school children to play inside the rain because it is against the practice of the game. He said the decision to stop the tournament was taken in the interest of the participants.
“We cannot fix a date for the remaining matches of the competition now until the weather is clear. We are going to complete the tournament as soon as the rain stops,” he said. Results of the matches played on the first day of the competition showed that Kuramo College lost 2-1 to Onike High School, Rockford College defeated Seylek Group of Schools 2-0, while Holy Child College suffered 2-0 loss to United Christian Sec. School.
