Taskforce Arrest Bullion Van
Officials of the Lagos Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit have arrested a bullion van conveying money to a bank for plying one way in Apapa area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.
Several drivers of bullion vans are known for flagrant violation of the traffic laws of Lagos State as they display brazen lawlessness on the road through driving against traffic.
The policemen in van were said to have escaped with the bullion van driver while officials of the taskforce drove the bullion van containing money to their headquarters at Alausa, Ikeja.
When contacted, the taskforce Chairman, Supol Bayo Sulaiman, confirmed the arrest of the bullion van in Apapa for driving against traffic.
He said the policemen accompanying the bullion van fled when they saw taskforce officials and the impounded van was currently parked at the taskforce premises.
Sulaiman stated that the bank in question had to bring another van to convey the money from the seized bullion van to its office. According to him, the arrest of the bullion van was to send signals to other policemen driving bullion vans that government would not tolerate them driving against traffic as no one is above the law.
As at the time of filing this report, the bullion van was still being parked at the taskforce office.
