Man Jailed 3 Years

An Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday sentenced a 21-year old man, Odunayo Balogun, to three years imprisonment for breaking into an officer’s flat at a Police Barracks in Ikorodu.

Magistrate Ademola Adesanya sentenced the convict, after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of breaking-in and stealing.

In his ruling, Adesanya said, “You are hereby sentenced to two years imprisonment on the first count offence and one year imprisonment for the second count offence that you have pleaded guilty to.”

The Magistrate added that the sentences were to run consecutively.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Fola Takunbe, said that the convict broke in and entered into the flat of Corporal James Okeke.

He said that Balogun stole two telephone handsets valued at N12, 500, a gold chain valued at N18,000 and a wallet containing a police identity card.

Takunbe said that the offences were committed on June 21 at 4 a.m. at Flat 4, Old Block 2, Sagamu Rd. Police Barracks, Ikorodu.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 278 and 305(b) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
