Scrabble Coach Vows To Win African Title

After leading Nigeria’s scrabble players to a respectable outing at  King’s Cup in Bankok and Penang ICT championship in Malaysia, national scrabble coach, Victor Owokere has vowed to retain Africa Scrabble championship title that Nigeria won last year in Ghana.

Speaking with P.MSports on arrival from Malaysia on Tuesday, Owokere said Nigerian players are set to retain the title they won last year.

“With our performances in Bankonk and Malaysia, I am confident we are in the right path to defend our title come November.

“Our aim for the Asian tourneys is to test some of our players in competitive atmosphere. And for then to finish among the top 200 players in the world, that really shows we are on course for our target of keeping the title here in the country again,” the experienced coach, who has been in charge of Nigeria’s scrabble players for over three years now said.

While reacting to his experience in Malaysia, coach Owokere said: “ We need to start up scrabble academies and introduce the teaching of the game in our educational curriculum, just like it is done in other parts of the world.”

He however, revealed that the players will be called into the national camp in September to begin preparation for the Africa Scrabble Championship, which starts in November.
