Adopt-A-Talent Committee To Unveil Sponsored Athletes
Adopt-A-Talent Sports Programme of Lagos State Government is gradually achieving its objective, as some of the athletes of the programme have been adopted by sponsors.
In February this year, 109 athletes were inaugurated in six sports; Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Athletics, Boxing and Table Tennis during the inauguration by Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola.
P.M.Sports gathered that 39 of the athletes have since been attached to listed sponsors, and will be unveiled to the public during a screening exercise, which will hold from 13-15 July at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
The Management Committee of the programme, headed by Prince Oladunjoye said that as more sponsors are coming on board, they would be attached to the athletes who have already been inaugurated.
The Committee is however conducting another screening exercise for its athletes. The screening exercise, the second since the programme started, will be done for 201 athletes who have indicated interests through their coaches, parents and enthusiasts, who registered them for the programme approved by Governor Fashola. The exercise will mainly involve new exceptional athletes in the additional sports such as: Gymnastics, Swimming, Karate and Judo.
Prince Oladunjoye disclosed that the screening will focus on the medical and physical fitness of the athletes, who will be camped at Myoung Barracks in Yaba, Lagos, where they will be conveyed daily to the stadium for the exercise.
He said parents, coaches and guardians of the 39 athletes to be unveiled, and 201 to be screened, have been informed to get ready for the programme, as the organisers would get across to them through letters, e-mails and text messages.
