Benson Is A National Icon —Lagos CJ

Newly installed Chief Justice of Lagos State, Justice (Mrs.) Ayo Phillips has hailed Chief O. B. Benson (SAN) as a national icon who is worthy of emulation.

Phillips expressed this at the 80th birthday reception held in honour of Benson inside Ikorodu Town Hall, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

“He is a kind, strict boss with great understanding. He is a polite individual and a gentleman to the core. I believe Uncle Tunde is a national icon who we all have to emulate and I’m really happy that I passed through his chambers because it really helped me in my early days in the profession,” she stated.

In his own comments at the occasion, the Ajesere of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, Warri, Delta State, High Chief (Dr.) George J. Amurun described Benson who is also the Asiwaju of Ikorodu land as “a very simple person; quite humble; a good listener who was always ready to go out of his way to assist whoever he had to.

“I’ve known him for over 50 years now and it was necessary for me to come here to honour him.”

Dignitaries at the event include the Ayangburen of Ikoroduland, Oba Salaudeen Oyefusi; the Olubeshe of Ibeshe, Oba Richard Olusanya; Auditor-General of Lagos State, Mr. David Sumonu; Chief Mrs. Oprah Benson, Yeye Oge of Lagos; the Obateru of Egbin, Oba Akeem Oriyomi; former Commissioner for Agriculture, Lagos State, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya; Board member of Lagos Polytechnic, Arch. Taiwo Kara; Permanent Secretary of Lagos Television, Lekan Ogunbanwo, among others.
