British Airways’ Boost For Team Zambia
British Airways has supported the Zambia Olympic team, accompanying coaches and officials headed for the London 2012 Olympic Games by offering concessionary tickets worth over K99 million that will enable the team travel directly and safely in preparedness to compete in the games.
The Zambia Olympic team, which comprise of 7 athletes: 1 boxer, 3 track and field athletes, 2 swimmers and 1 judoka, will first camp in Scotland before returning to London to participate in the games. Speaking when she handed over the concessionary tickets to Mirriam Moyo, president of the National Olympic Committee of Zambia, at a send-off event for the Zambia Olympic team that was held at the British High Commission in Lusaka, British Airways Zambia commercial manager Beatrice Kamanga said that the airline has a strong track record in flying athletes around the world and has worked with various sporting bodies to ensure that it understand the needs of athletes as well as transporting their equipment. In attendance at the handover event was the Deputy Minister of Sports and Youth, Honourable Nathaniel Mubukwanu as guest of honour and the British Deputy High Commissioner to Zambia, David Pearce.
“British Airways is passionate about playing its part to help athletes perform at the world’s biggest sporting event – the Olympics. We will be looking after thousands of competitors, spectators and dignitaries on our flights to the United Kingdom,” Kamanga said.
She said that as the official airline partner for the Olympic Games, British Airways has supported thousands of athletes in sport with flights for them and their families, so that they could train and compete all over the world in preparation for the London 2012 Games.
Kamanga said that the airline will offer more than just flights, the athletes will experience hospitality the British Airways way as they travel for the games: “On board our aircraft, athletes will enjoy an Olympic inspired menu, short film and Dove aircraft livery in honour of the London 2012 Games.”
