3 Armed Robbers Killed In Gun Duel

Policemen from Denton Police Station, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, have killed three robbery suspects during a gun battle that last for some hours along Jebba/Ondo Street, Ebute-Meta.

Investigations revealed that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of Denton Police Station received a distress call that robbers were operating along Jebba/Ondo Street and he immediately contacted his patrol team who raced to the scene and on sighting the police patrol team, the robbers opened fire on them.

In the ensuing gun duel, the police were said to have overpowered the robbers, some of whom escaped while three  died of bullet wounds.

Items recovered from the scene of the incident included two locally made pistols and two live cartridges.

The case has been transferred to the Lagos Sate Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba.

Confirming the story, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police, DSP Ngozi C. Braide, said efforts to track down the fleeing members of the gang is ongoing and advised members of the public to always report suspicious movement within and around their vicinity to the police for quick response, assuring that useful information to the police will always be treated in confidence.

In a related development, policemen at Ijora Badia recovered a locally made pistol and a live cartridge at Ororo Garage, Ijora, which fell from robbers on a motorcycle that attempted to rob another motorcycle at the garage.

The case has been transferred to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, SCIP, Panti, Yaba for further investigations.
