The National Women Conference (NWC) of the NLC ended in chaos on Thursday in Abuja, following disagreements among the delegates.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the development resulted to the postponement of election of a new executive to run the body.

NAN reports that while some of the women wanted the election to hold, others said that the election could not go ahead in view of alleged shoddy arrangements by the organisers.

Those who rejected the holding of the election said that the NWC leaders did not make adequate and proper arrangements for the election.

Mrs. Ladi Iliya, the incumbent chairperson of the NLC Women’s Conference, insisted that the election would not hold in view of the lapses.

“The National Administrative Council had already taken a decision that the election be postponed till a later date. We have to go back to NAC before the election will hold,’’ she said.

Some of the aggrieved delegates told NAN that there was no electoral committee in place, ahead of the election as stipulated by the rules.

Others said that the election should hold since delegates attended from various parts of the country.

Mrs Lucy Offiong, Deputy Chairperson of the NWC, told NAN that the election was postponed because some members of the committee who were not eligible wanted to vote.

“We do not want to take a decision that somebody will take us to court over an illegal action or decision after the election,’’ she said.

Offiong said that the NLC did not release money in time for proper hosting of the conference.

She said that NAC would fix a new date for a proper and well-planned election.
