Chairman, Lagos State chapter of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Chief Henry Oladele Ajomale, has commended the Yaba Local Council chairman, Abdul Raheem Olajide Jimoh a.k.a. JJ, for improving the lives of the people of the area.

He made the commendation on Tuesday during the distribution of electricity transformers to some communities of the council area.

Ajomale, represented by the Assistant State Publicity Secretary, Chief Funso Ologunde, the Lagos ACN chief noted that within seven months in office, Yaba has witnessed tremendous development through execution of projects by the council boss.

“So far, so good, JJ has done very well and the people of Yaba have given testimonies to this fact,” he remarked and called on the residents of the area to give the chairman the needed support to achieve his administration’s development programmes.

In his speech at the occasion, Jimoh enumerated the importance of light, emphasising its superiority over darkness.

“Electricity cuts across a greater gamut of the society. Thus, when Thomas Edison was sweating to give us the bulb, he was doing the world a great service,” he stated, adding that today, the use of electricity was central to human activities and hardly could we do without it.

According to Jimoh, the challenges that Nigeria is facing over its economy are traceable mainly to energy sector.

“Nigeria’s economy is in the doldrums because of the country’s epileptic power supply. Various sectors have suffered incalculable damage to the extent that the main tag of an economy, the manufacturing and production sectors are almost dead with many factories closing down, while a number of multinational companies have relocated to other countries as a result of exorbitant cost of fuelling their generators,” noted the council boss, emphasising that the need to assist in the provision of electricity, especially in the area of distribution and encourage the growth of small scale businesses prompted the provision of the transformers by his administration to seven wards within the council.

He urged the beneficiary communities to make good use of the transformers.

The event was witnessed by a former Chief Whip in the House of Representatives, Mr. Olawale Osun; former Chairman of old Lagos Mainland Local Government, Chief Adetayo Oyemade; representative of the senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu; other party chiefs in the area, traditional rulers and community leaders.
