Lagos Island Plans Law On Social Security
The Lagos Island Local Government Area of Lagos State will soon enact a law to make provision for people who are 65 years old and above.
To make the social security plan workable, the legislative arm of the local government recently held a stakeholders’ meeting with residents of the area on how the beneficiaries will be selected when the bye law becomes effective.
Mr. Sheu Tijani Makanjuola, the leader of the council said the sum of N1million, will be allocated for the project which would be on bi-monthly basis, and the such payment will be subject to availability of fund.
He said a three-man screening committee will be set up who after screening the beneficiaries would submit their names to the social security of the local consideration.
The councillors said if the draft finally become law, the beneficiaries shall be given foodstuff and money whose cost shall not exceed N10,000 monthly.
“The aim of the bill is to assist those who are of low social status and with deliberation we had with the residents, we shall soon pass it,”Makanjuola said.
