Chairman, Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area, LCDA, of Lagos State, Dr. Augustine Adeoye Arogundade has declared that he is more interested in preventing diseases afflicting residents of the area.
Speaking with journalists after planting a tree along the Old Ota Road, off AIT Road, Alagbado, Lagos, Arogundade said he was more interested in preventing his constituents from being afflicted with deadly diseases like cancer and kidney disorder.
Arogundade, a former lecturer at the University of Lagos said, “since I mounted the saddle of administration at Agbado/Oke-Odo LCDA, I have always emphasized the importance of preventive health. That’s why I have been stressing the importance of a clean and healthy environment.”
He disclosed that he had done a lot of public enlightenment to educate the people on the need to live in a healthy environment, rid their compounds of mosquitoes and to plant trees.
The Agbado/Oke-Odo LCDA chairman said if people pay the right attention to their immediate environment, they will not be infected with malaria and other diseases.
He said prevention is better and cheaper than cure, adding that people should not wait for diseases to afflict them before taking care of their environment.
Like he had done at different public enlightenment forum, Arogundade advised residents to keep weeds, filth and other environmental hazards away from them to prevent diseases.
He urged law enforcement agents to look out for residents throwing their refuse into drainages whenever it rains and arrest them
The tree planting campaign in Agbado/Oke-Odo was attended by officials of community development associations, CDAs, community leaders and traditional rulers.
