Volleyball: Adefuye Tourney Gets New Date
Organisers of the Senator Anthony Adefuye Inter-School Competition have fixed a new date for the championship.
The school tourney, which was postponed indefinitely two weeks ago due to the heavy rainfall in Lagos, will now hold on 20 and 21 July at the Volleyball Court, Rowe Park, Yaba in Lagos.
Chairman of Lagos State Volleyball Association, Owolabi Martins, confirmed to P.M.Sports that all logistics have been put in place to host a successful tournament.
“We want to apologise to participating schools for the embarrassment, which the postponement might have caused them. We took the decision when we felt that the championship might not bring the best out of the students due to the heavy downpour in Lagos two weeks ago,” he said.
Martins said the body fixed a new date for the tournament because the participating schools would have concluded their third term examination.
He however expressed appreciation to sponsor of the tournament, Senator Anthony Adefuye, for his contribution to the development of volleyball in Lagos.
He also charged the sports philanthropists and other corporate bodies in the state to commit their resources to volleyball, saying that Lagos is poised to win gold medals in male and female events of the forthcoming National Sports Festival.
scheduled to hold in Lagos later in the year.
