FERMA Repairs Sagamu/Benin Road

The Federal Emergency Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA has intensified repair works on failed portions of the Sagamu-Benin Expressway.

FERMA’s Managing Director, Engr. Gabriel Amuchi, while inspecting ongoing repairs on the Sagamu and Ijebu Ode sections of the highway said, with the coming of the rains, the interventionist measure became necessary to keep the highway motorable.

“Our strategy has been to sustain the presence of our men along the expressway all through the year. But it is more critical now that the rain has become very intensive.

“This is an interventionist measure to keep this critical road ever motorable and safe for road users,” Amuchi explained, at the weekend, during a tour of the route.

The FERMA boss said the ongoing patching of potholes around the Ogun and Ondo states stretch was a routine maintenance operation, in addition to major repair projects that are going on around the Edo section.

“I have directed my road engineers and zonal director to also mobilize men and equipment to put them on the road from Sagamu all through the Ogun State stretch, which is about 98km; then from the Ogun State border to the Ondo stretch which is about another 100km.

“We’ll be doing de-silting, directing flow of water, cutting all the vegetation. You’ll see our pail-loader on site all through the stretch,” Amuchi said.

In line with the agency’s public works programme, the FERMA boss said more men are being mobilized on the road, so as to ensure the road is well maintained pending when there’ll be a major reconstruction project.
