‘Nigeria’ll Shine In Athletics’

National record holder in the 400m women hurdles, Ajoke Odumosu, has disclosed that there is prospect for Team Nigeria to win medals in the track and field events in the Olympics.

The gold medalist at 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, said that Team Nigeria have brighter chances of winning medals in athletics event than in other sports.

“Athletics events are the backbone of Team Nigeria at the London Olympics. Nigeria stands a great chance of winning some medals in athletics if we consider the caliber of the people that will represent the country at the Games,” said Odumosu, who was at the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

She said: “The strength of Team Nigeria is in long jump and some other events in athletics. I have the confidence that Nigeria will win medals from these events because we have great athletes who will represent the country at the Games.”

Odumosu, who won a gold medal at the 2008 African Championships further said that the superlative performance of Team Nigeria at the recently held African Championships in Port Novo, Benin Republic is a good omen for Nigerian athletes at the London games.

“There is no doubt that the athletes will make the country proud in London. Our excellent performance at the African Championships is a signal that Nigeria will shine in athletics at the Olympic Games,” said Odumosu.
