‘No Regret Losing Fashola Cup’

Chief Coach of Insurance Owode, Rasak Salami has commended his team’s performance despite 2-3 defeat against Oshorun United in the penalty shootouts at the final of Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola Soccer Championship played on Saturday at Keme Balogun College, Ibeshe, Ikorodu, Lagos.

Although both teams played 1-1  at the regulation time before Insurance Owode emerged the winners of this year’s edition.

Salami told GSG that he was not disappointed that his team failed to win the tournament rather he commended the players for giving their opponents a good fight in the encounter watched by hundred of crowds.

‘It was a good outing for us. I’m not disappointed with the result because my team played to instructions. Our opponents did well by getting the much needed equaliser at the tail end of the match. Unfortunately, we were unlucky to have lost  the game through penalty shootouts,” he said.

Coach of Abule Oshorun United, Amos Johnson, who was elated with the outcome of the match, boasted that his team played well and deserved the glory. He assured that his team will defend the title next year.

Johnson also thanked the cup donor, Kaoli Olusanya for his support and commitment to grassroots football in Ibesheland.He called on other sports philanthropists and corporate bodies to emulate the cup donor.

Olusanya, who sponsored the tournament in the name of Governor  Raji Fashola to appreciate him for what the state has been doing for Ibesheland, was happy that the tourney was a success. He said both teams played to expectations, but a better side won the cup.

Abule Oshorun United received a giant trophy with the sum of N50, 000, while Insurance Owode FC went home with N30, 000.
