Mr Bereket Simon, Ethiopia’s Minister for Information and Communications has denied stories making the rounds that Prime Minister Meles Zenawi was critically ill.
Simon said that on the contrary, Zenawi was having a medical rest outside the country.
Simon told journalists in Addis Ababa that the rumour going round that Meles is dead or seriously sick was untrue.
He said Meles was resting somewhere outside Ethiopia and would return to the country very soon.
“The PM is having medical rest as advised by his doctors that he should stay away from his day-to-day activities for sometimes to enable him have a good rest”, Simon said.
Simon said the Prime Minister was having a tight schedule to ensure that his vision and mission for the country were realised.
“He is a PM with herculean ability, studying, travelling, writing books, organising and putting plans and other engagements together,” Simon said.
Zenawi was absent at the recently concluded summit of African Heads of State and Government held in Ethiopia.
