A frozen foods seller, Mrs. Gbemi Akinsanya, has filed a petition before the Agege Customary Court seeking the dissolution of her 15-year old marriage to Mr. Bola Akinsanya.

The petitioner who lives at Iju Ishaga, Lagos accused her estranged husband of violence and wilful destruction of her wares.

In her petition, she stated that  though they were not legally married, they lived together for 15 year during which they had two children, aged 14 and 10.

She accused her husband of burning her shop in a rage with petrol, adding that when she tried to put out the fire, she was prevented from doing so by other shop owners who feared that she could be attacked by her husband.

She told the court that she reported the matter to the police who warned him from harrasing her. “I want the court to officially restrain him from coming to my house because I don’t want him to kill me,” she added.

The respondent, it was learnt, has not attended the court despite being served court processes.

The case has been adjourned till 13 August, 2012 for judgment.
