Lawmaker, LG Boss Stress Importance Of Tree Planting
The chairman of Agege Local Government, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, Mr. Jubreel Ayodeji Abdulkareem, has enjoined residents of the council to embrace the culture of tree planting.
He affirmed the benefit of trees in cleaning the air that we breath of all pollutants, supplying the oxygen that people need to live and generally making for a healthy living among the populace.
Dignitaries at the event took turn to plant a tree each before rounding off the ceremony.
The event which took place at the Central Primary School, Oniwaya, Agege, was witnessed by a large number of residents who were once again reminded of the need to preserve trees and to plant five in place of one tree cut. Representing the governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, at the occasion, Olamilekan Adeola, representing Alimosho Federal Constituency at the National Assembly reiterated that the tree planting exercise is the initiative and purposeful effort of the state government to combat the effect of industrialisation and civilisation on our environment.
