Motorsport: Ex-Formula 1 Boss Joins Nigeria Racing Eagles

Nigeria Racing Eagle is already gaining popularity in the world of Motorsport with the arrival of John Wickham, former Team Manager for Lotus-Renault F1 2011 to its camp.

According to the GRC Motorsport, the owner of the Nigeria Racing Eagle, Wickham is coming on board as the Team Manager, who will be in charge of the technical department of Nigeria Racing Eagle, running day to day activities of the team, including team management at the race events, drivers’ training and testing and the Driver Academy.

Managing Director of GRC Motorsport, Mr. Ribi Adeshokan, who is also the Team principal of Nigeria Racing Eagle disclosed that Wickham owned F1 Spirit Racing in the ‘80s and was Team Manager for F1 Arrows in the ‘90s. From 1996 to 2003 he was Team Manager for Audi Sport UK and Bentley, who won the series in Touring Cars the Le Mans 24 Hour Race. From 2004 to 2009 Wickham worked for the successful A1GP Series as Head of Operations.

“I feel honoured to be part of the historic Nigeria Racing Eagle and the dream of developing African racing team, including drivers, team and crew to represent the continent at the top level of world of Motorsport and one day becoming the world champion,” said Wickham during the unveiling in London recently.

In his words, Adeshokan said: “I am very delighted with Wickham joining the team; he will bring his vast experience to Nigeria Racing Eagle especially the development of the team. He has worked with the likes of Thierry Bousten, Johnny Cecotto, Emerson Fittipaldi, Damon Hill, Bruno Senna and a host of others.”

Adeshokan further disclosed that Nigeria Racing Eagle will soon compete in the GT3 series in 12 races in when it finally enters the series.
