Nigerian Sports Awards Hold November
The Nigerian Sports Awards, NSA, meant to recognise and celebrate sports excellence among Nigerian sportsmen and women will be held on 29 November in Lagos.
Kayode Idowu, General Manager of Unmissable Incentives Limited, organiser of the awards, said in Lagos yesterday that the objective of the awards is to raise prestige, enhance better performance and create healthy competition among Nigerian athletes.
He said: “It is amazing that Nigeria, as a great sports country with her citizen excelling in various fields of sports, does not have a well coordinated award to celebrate her athletes, leaving them to be celebrated by international bodies such as BBC and CAF Awards.”
Chairman of the Awards Panel, Ikeddy Iziguzo explained that the awards are open to Nigerian athletes plying their trades within and outside the country. The categories of the awards include football, track and field, ball sports, combat sports, weightlifting, boxing and many other sports.
Iziguzo, however regretted that many athletes, who have done Nigeria proud at various championships have not been duelly recognised, recalling that the such awards were last held in 2003.
Other panelists, according to Iziguzo are: Chief Fabio Olanipekun, Fred Edore, Chairman, Lagos SWAN, Falilat Ogunkoya, Ejiro Omonode, Tade Adekunle and Kayode Idowu.
