Yaba LCDA Honours Ibile Games’ Champions

More than hundred of athletes who represented Yaba Local Council Development Area, LCDA in the last Lagos State Sports Festival tagged “Ibile Games” were yesterday honoured by chairman of the council, Abdulraheem Olajide Jimoh

The ceremony was attended by the athletes, well wishers, members of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN and officials of the LCDA at the Hoares Memorial Methodist Church Hall, Yaba, Lagos.

Team Yaba emerged winners of Ibile Games with 158 gold, 100 silver and 90 bronze medals.

The chairman commended Team Yaba for making the council proud at the tourney held last May.

He said the last Ibile Games showed that the council has potentials who will rule Lagos sports.

“Apart from the fact that we are the overall winners of Ibile Games, numerous medals- gold, silver and bronze, which we won, were intimidating. Our sportsmen and women competed in virtually all the sports and won medals in almost all of them.

Your victories in these sporting events were not fortuitous neither did they happen by chance. They were outcome of your toil and sweat, good and consistent planning, rigorous practices and serious self-denial,” said the chairman.

Jimoh disclosed that the council has made available some cash gifts that will be given to all the athletes who made the council proud at the Ibile Games.

“I have decided to reward you (the athletes) financially and issue a meritorious certificate with the stamp of the council for what you have done for Yaba. Nobody gave us a chance when Ibile Games started but I thank God that our athletes proved our critics,” said Jimoh, who charged the victorious Team Yaba to defend the title next year.
