First Bank Begin Early Preparation

First Bank of Lagos, have begun training for Zone 3 Elimination Series for this year’s African Clubs Championship, which will be played in Monrovia, Liberia.

The coach Adewunmi Aderemi-tutored side finished second behind 2011/2012 Nigeria women’s basketball league champions, First Deepwater club of Lagos in the Zenith Bank Women League.

Speaking with P.M Sports at the at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, Aderemi said their decision to begin early preparation for the Zone 3 Elimination Tournament is to ensure that his players had enough time to strategise for the Liberia tourney.

He said: “As you are aware that my players are the youngest side in the recentky concluded Zenith Bank-sponsored league, that is why the management of the team wants us to start our preparation early.

“Since we started training on 2 July, the players have been repsonding to training. We have been taken them up on new techniques and tactics we want to adopt when we get to Liberia. It is a new approach to our style of play and I am glad the players are learning it fast,” he said.

Responding to why First Bank were not able to win the league for the third year successively, coach Aderemi replied: “This was due to the fact some of our experienced players left us to seek greener pastures abroad, while some of them took time out to settle on their marital life.”

He however, promises their fans that First Bank are on course to bring back their lost glory in the 2012/2013 season.
