Man Burns Wife’s Property

A jilted man, Michael Onyilo vent his frustration on his estranged wife, Peace, after she dumped him and went for another man in Apapa, Lagos, southwest Nigeria.

He brought all her property out of her shop and set them ablaze. He is now facing charge of arson and wilful damage before Apapa Magistrate court in Lagos.

Among her property he reportedly burnt include her big box containing her clothes and cash of N160,000, her jewelery, shoes, certificate and others.  Michael said that Peace who he married  four years ago told him that since he has no money again and was troublesome, there was no need to continue to stay with him as his wife.

She packed her property and took their only son, moved out of her matrimonial home and changed her surname to Agbo.

The jilted husband could not bear it after much pleading with her to come back and she refuse’s. Michael reportedly  went to her shop at 1, Ifesowapo Street, Maracana, Olodi Apapa and took all her property and set them ablaze.

She reported the matter to the police and Michael  was arrested.

He told the police that he married Peace when things were rosy only to be dumped  when he was facing difficulties.

He also told the police that the property he burnt  was his because he bought them.

However, the police told him that he committed a serious crime and charged him to court for the alleged wilful damage and arson under sections 339 and 348 of criminal code. When he was arraigned in court he pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr E. O. Ogundare granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum. The matter was adjourned till 19 October, 2012 for mention.
