5 Docked For Burning BRT Vehicle

Five suspects have been arrested by the police and charged to Ikeja Magistrate’s court sitting in Abule Egba, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, for allegedly setting a BRT vehicle ablaze.

The suspects are Fadioye Seun, 32, Rasaq Ayinde, 23, Oye Emeghai, 21, Amodu Malu, 25 and Lateef Balogun, 38.The incident happened  on 16 July, 2012  at U- Turn Abule Egba.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the men who are now in prison custody allegedly brought some petrol and burnt the Macopolo bus with registration number XN 449 FKJ belonging to Lagos State government. The burnt bus was involved in an accident which claimed the life of a motorcycle rider. The angry mob attacked on the bus after the driver escaped and set it ablaze. The police at Oke Odo raided the scene of the incident and arrested the suspects and charged them to court.

The prosecutor, Inspector Lugard Ahonle alleged that the suspects on the date, time and place did set the bus ablaze.

He said the offence they committed was contrary to section 339 of the Criminal Code Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011. They pleaded not guilty. The presiding Magistrate, Mr O.  A. Komolafe granted them bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum. The court also ordered that the sureties must be on at least grade level 13 in the civil service and be landlords or community leaders. The matter was adjourned till 20 August, 2012 for mention.

They were remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending when they will meet their bail conditions.
