Ejigbo LCDA Sponsors 100 For Training
The Ejigbo Local Council Development Area, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, has given out entry forms to the 100 beneficiaries of its skill acquisition training centres.
Courses available at the centres are: Catering and Hotel Management, Computer Studies, Hairdressing and Cosmethology, Textile, Hats and Beads Making, Photography, Barbing, Fashion Design, Adult Literacy, among others.
Distributing the forms to beneficiaries at the council secratariat, the LCDA boss, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan, said the aim was to help the youth discover their potentials.
“Becoming a financially independent individual will make you appreciate God who had given you the talent to use your hands and be free from being a burden to your parents.
“The youths constitute 65 percent of the population in this LCDA and empowering them means ensuring a financially capable society not only in Ejigbo but in Lagos State,” Bamigbetan stated.
The council boss said he embarked on the programme to ensure a crime-free society that would not only develop Ejigbo but also make Lagos State a place for multi-dimensional industrial investment.
“Since 2008, we have demonstrated the best investment in education and youths development with free GCE and JAMB forms to more than 1,000 candidates in addition to distribution of free uniforms and other educational materials that make teaching and learning easier for pupils in all public schools in Ejigbo LCDA.
“The 6-3-3-4 educational curriculum was to create standard base for carpenters, vulcanizers and other artisans in Nigerian society and free your mind of the erroneous notion that you cannot be successful unless you go to university. If you choose to go for higher education, the skill so acquired at the centre will help your earning and therefore be a support to your parents,” he said.
The council chairman pointed out that 71 out of the beneficiaries were nominated for the programme by their community development associations, adding that his administration would give start-up capital to the best student in each course of study at the centre.
