200 Athletes For Summer Camping

A summer camping is to be organised for athletes of the Adopt-A-Talent Sports Programme during the long vacation of schools in Lagos State.

It was gathered that at least 200 athletes from the approved 10 sports ( Gymnastics, Swimming, Karate, Judo, Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Athletics, Boxing and Table Tennis) will take part in the summer camping which the Management of the programme wants to use for the athletes to be more pro active in their chosen sports.

The two weeks camping, which will take place at the NYSC Camp at Iyana Ipaja in Agege Local Government, will begin towards the end of August.

Chairman of the Management Committee of the programme, Prince Wale Oladunjoye told P.M.News in his office at Teslim Balgun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos that the athletes will undergo an intensive training and observational skill acquisition both in practical and theory.

“The camping is planned in a way that the athletes will have enough time for themselves during the holiday. We have tasked their coaches to give their best and make sure that the athletes are well drilled during their stay in the camp.

“We also want to use the summer camping to meet with the athletes and their parents for important discussions,” he said.

Oladunjoye, said Adopt – A- Talent Sports Programme was designed to discover and groom the athletes, stressing that the state has benefitted from the programme, as some of the athletes discovered featured at the last National Sports Festival hosted by Rivers State, and National School Sports Festival in Cross River last year. He said some will represent Lagos at the Eko 2012 Sports Festival.
