3SC’ll Prove Doubters Wrong
Philip Asuquo of Shooting Stars Sports Club , 3SC spoke with BIMBO AJAYI after his side’s 1-0 victory over Rangers International of Enugu in the Week 35 tie at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan on Sunday. The midfielder spoke about the prospects of the Ibadan-based club finishing among the top clubs in the Nigeria Premier League, NPL this season, and other issues
How do you feel about your club’s 1-0 victory over Rangers who are the league leaders?
I feel so great with the outcome of our match against Rangers, which many football fans consider as the best club in the country at the moment. And I know that our fans too will be extremely happy that we did them proud by securing the maximum three points at stake. Many people had written us off before the match because they thought Rangers would be a high hurdle for us to cross, but I am happy that we won the match at the end of the day.
Are you saying today’s victory means more to 3SC than the previous ones?
In a way, I can say the victory was very important to us because it was a crucial match. We needed to get the maximum three points to move up on the table just as Rangers also needed the points to be more comfortable at the top of the table. But I want our doubters to know that we will surely prove them wrong at the end of the season. It is glaring that the sky is the limit for us at the rate we are going in the league.
What does the Most Valuable Player award you won mean to you, and what should 3SC fans expect from you in the remaining matches of this season?
To be honest, I am delighted that I was voted the Most Valuable Player in the match. The award means so much to me, though this is not the first time that I have won the award this season. But this is not an attempt to belittle the award because I know it will ginger me to perform better in the remaining matches of the season. The truth is that every player will be happy to be named the Most Valuable Player in a high-profile match that involves 3SC and Rangers.
Do you agree with most fans in the stadium that you singlehandedly gave your side victory in the match?
I don’t think I was the only player that gave us victory in this match, because I won the Most Valuable Player award. I just happened to be one of the lucky players that the coach featured in the match. The glory should go to the entire members of the team because we all worked hard to get the victory. We knew how important it was to get the maximum points in this game in order to move up in the table and we went for it.
What’s the plan of the team as a whole?
We want our fans to be rest assured that we will not disappoint them this season. I want to assure them that we will not rest on our oars to make our them happy.
We will do our best to secure another maximum points against Wolves in our next game. It won’t be easy, but we can do it just as we did against Rangers.
