Politician Uses Tinubu’s Name To Dupe Job Seekers

A 60-year old politician, Folaji Onikoyi, who allegedly used the name of the national leader of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to defraud unsuspecting members of the public has been arrested and arraigned in court.

Onikoyi, a resident of 6, Mowowale Street, Ilaje, in Bariga, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, was accused of obtaining  N670,000 from Opayemi Rotimi and Owolabi Ajibade, by deceiving the victims that the former governor of Lagos State would offer them jobs.

He promised his victims that he would use the money to negotiate with Tinubu to offer them a supervisory councillorship slot in Lagos Island Local Government and a manager slot at Lagos Water Corporation respectively.

The politician was subsequently arrested and arraigned before a Somolu Magistrate’s Court in Lagos.

The accused, who is facing a two-count charge of obtaining money by false pretences;  however, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him.

The prosecutor, ASP Akinlebi Adegoke, had told the court that  Onikoyi collected N670,000 from  Rotimi and  Ajibade. He said the accused committed the offence at 18, Olorunkemi Street, Bariga, Lagos.

He said the offences contravened Sections 312 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case till 17 August for trial.
