George, Morton Give Nigeria Hope In Atthletics
Nigeria’s hope of getting into the medals’ table became brighter today as the duo of Omolara George and Amaechi Morton advanced to the next round of the Track and Field events at London 2012 Olympics.
Goerge breasted the tape in the nick of 51.24secs, as she came first in Heat 7 of the women’s 400m, as Haiti’s Marlena Welsh and Russia’s Ceushia Yuschina finished second and third respectively.
Nigeria’s 400m men’s hurdles hopeful, Amaechi Morton, also advanced to the next round in the men’s 400m Heat 1, as he reached the finish line in 49.34secs in the race won by Cuba’s Amaurys R. Valle, who breasted the tape on 49.19secs.
Also, US-based Team Nigeria athlete, Ohunoma Osazuwa qualified to the next round, as she finished 7th in the 100m women Heptathlon.
Omolara Omotoso’s 52.11secs in Heat 3 of the 400m women was good enough to book her a place in the next round, as she came fourth in the race, won by America’s Deedee Trotters who breasted the tape in 50.85secs.
