Nigerian stocks index closes higher

Transactions on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE ) closed in an upbeat mood on Friday as investors renew their confidence in some quoted companies.

The All-Share Index grew by 0.15 per cent to close at 23,523.15 points against the 23,488.79 points recorded on Thursday.

Market capitalisation of all listed securities rose by N11 billion to close at N7.487 trillion compared with N7.476 trillion transacted on Thursday.

Okomu Oil led the gainers’ chart, chalking up 60k to close at N29.60 per share.

Unilever share price followed with 45k to close at N36.45 while GlaxoSmithKline gained 39k to close at N28.50 per share.

Ashaka Cement gained 25k to close at N9.75 per share, while Dangote Sugar share price grew by 22k to close at N4.94 per share. GAINERS FOR 3RD AUGUST 2012

On the other hand, NewGold led the price losers, shedding N32 to close at N2,488 per unit.

Mobil share price dipped by N6.25 to close at N118.75 per share, while Arbico lost 90k to close at N17.29 per share.

Beta Glass share price fell by 52k to close N10.03 while Berger Paint lost 38k to close at N7.33 per share.

Overall, investors bought 207.43 million shares worth N2.36 billion traded in 3,740 deals as against 106.49 million shares worth N1.15 billion traded on Thursday in 1,789 deals.
