Arsenal sign Spain’s Cazorla
Arsenal have strengthened their midfield with the acquisition of Spanish
play maker, Santi Cazorla, from La Liga side Malaga, the Premier League club said on Tuesday.
“Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that Spain international, Santi Cazorla, has joined the Club
on a long-term contract,” Arsenal said on their website (www.arsenal.com).
Malaga also confirmed the deal, which Spanish and British media reported was worth around 15 million pounds.
Cazorla is Arsenal’s third major summer signing, joining Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud who moved from
FC Cologne and Montpellier HSC respectively.
The 27-year-old has made 45 appearances for Spain, including brief cameos at Euro 2012.
The Spain international has been linked with the Gunners in the past, and says when they made their move this time around he jumped at the chance.
“I am very happy to be here – it is a huge club,” Cazorla told Arsenal Player. “It is a great step forward in my career and I hope it will be a very good experience. I hope to win trophies here – that is what I want of course.
“I remember when I signed for Malaga [in 2011] there was already interest from Arsenal. It was always a club I liked very much.
“Because of circumstances in football, things have not gone the way we wanted in Malaga this year but now I am going to have the opportunity to experience the Premier League and to be at a big club.
“I could not miss this opportunity – I am 27 years old so it was the last train I could catch.”
Cazorla joins his new team-mates on their pre-season training camp in Germany, and can’t wait to begin this new chapter in his career.
He spent most of his career at Villarreal before joining Malaga last season, when he helped the Andalusian side
to qualify for the Champions League for the first time.
“I’m so happy to be joining Arsenal,” Cazorla said on his new club’s website.
“This is a club with great players, a fantastic stadium and huge support,” he added.
“The club has one of the best managers in football, and their style of play is recognised and admired all
over the world.”
