Ogun ACN Stalwart Is Dead

The Chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Ogun Central Senatorial District, Chief Segun Taiwo, died this morning at his residence in Obantoko, Abeokuta in Odeda Local Government area of Ogun State, southwest, Nigeria. He was aged 63.

P.M.NEWS gathered that Chief Taiwo, who was  the former Commissioner for Youth and Sports during the administration of  ex-governor, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, did not show any sign of illness before his death.  A family source who confirmed Chief Taiwo’s death today said he would be missed by the family.

“We will surely miss Chief Taiwo. In fact, he just completed building a mansion at Obasanjo hilltop area in Abeokuta and plans had been concluded for him to move into the new house before his death,” the source added.

According to a media aide to Governor Ibikunle Amuson of Ogun  State, who pleaded anonymity, Taiwo was a committed ACN stalwart who used his talent to support the present government. He added: “The governor was shocked by the news of his death and he was in his house early this morning to commiserate with his family members. He was an elder statesman and I believe the government will be part of his burial ceremony.”

Chief Taiwo was until his death the Oluwo of Ake, Abeokuta and a staunch loyalist of Osoba. He was the former Chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government in 1999 and after serving a term of three years in office, he was appointed the Commissioner for Youth and Sports during Osoba’s administration.

Effort to contact Osoba on phone to comment on Taiwo’s death was futile as our correspondent learnt that the former governor was out of the country.
