UNILAG, 11 others share N25billion federal aid

Nigeria Government on Tuesday disbursed N25 billion to twelve Nigerian tertiary institutions, including the University of Lagos, as part of this year’s Special High Impact Programme, for the development of public institutions

Presenting Cheques to the benefiting institutions at the 2012 strategic planning workshop, organised by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) the Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufai, stated that the selected institutions were chosen on the principle of equity and geopolitical balancing.

She also disclosed that the Education Tax Collection for 2012, has tremendously increase TETFund intervention to public Universities from N58.5 million to N598 million, representing and increase of 46.33% for the sixty one universities, including state own Universities.

Six out of the twelve institutions received N3 billion each while the other six Polytechnics and Colleges of Education, got N1 billion naira each. The other beneficiary Universities include, the Benue state University Makurdi, Anambra State University, University of Calabar, Kebbi state University and the Modibbo Adamu University Yola.

other beneficiaries are: The Polytechnic Ibadan, Alvan Ikokwu College of Education, Owerri, Delta State College of Education, Agbor, Federal College of Education, Kaura Namoda, Bauchi state College of Education, Azare, Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa.
