Don’t Spare Traffic Offenders, Ikuforiji Warns Colleagues

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, has warn his colleagues against intervening for traffic offenders in the state.

He also warned the Assembly  workers against facilitating the bail of arrested traffic offenders as the State Traffic Law becomes operational.

Ikuforiji, while giving the warning, said any member found trying to plead for a traffic offender does so at his or her own peril.

He said the new law was meant to regulate the activities of motorists especially the reckless drivers and also to restore sanity on  roads in the state.

The Speaker warned: “Fellow colleagues and members of staff of this great House, I want to warn you all not to plead, mediate or appeal to any traffic office to release any traffic offender that violates the traffic law.

“I know that some members are fond of calling LASTMA officials to seek the release of traffic offenders. Anybody who does this will find himself or herself to blame.

“Now, to all members of staff of the Lagos State House of Assembly, anyone of you caught violating traffic rules, apart from the sanction or fine which the offender would pay, the House will equally punish the staff.”

Ikuforiji urged the House members to begin to educate  their constituents on the law.

The House, before embarking on a recess that will last till 17 September, 2012, passed the State Scholarship Board bill and that of Lagos State Polytechnic to the governor for his assent after the two bills scaled the third reading.

The State Scholarship Board Law has provision for the establishment of the Board, Composition of the Board, Appointment, Tenure and Remuneration of members and powers of the Board.
