Bolt Eyes Record 200m Gold In London

Usain Bolt says nothing can stop him becoming an Olympic legend tonight.

The ‘Lightning Bolt’ cruised through his 200m semi-final in 20.18secs and set his eye on the gold medal of the event today.

Asked if it could cement his iconic status, Bolt replied: “Without a doubt. I’m ready, this is my favourite event and I’m looking forward to it.

“It was all about going through as easily as possible. That was the aim, so I’m pretty happy.”

There were questions about Bolt going into this Olympics, especially after he lost to Yohan Blake over 100m and 200m in the Jamaican trials.

But the man is on fire as he looks to become the first athlete to successfully defend both sprint titles.

Bolt added: “People always doubt the champion but I know what I can do, so I never doubt myself.”

His biggest rival will again be his training partner and fellow Jamaican Blake, who he beat on Sunday night to win gold in the 100m.

Blake believes he is capable of denying his pal the ultimate glory.

He eased up so abruptly in his semi-final that he was almost caught on the line as he cantered to a time of 20.01.

Blake said: “I have been working really hard on the 200m and it’s always a good chance for me. Usain is my good friend so it’s going to be interesting.”

There was heartbreak for British veteran Christian Malcolm in what is his fourth Olympics.

He was third in his heat but missed out on a fastest loser’s spot.

Malcolm, 33, said: “I’m disappointed. This is my last Olympics and it would have been nice to make the final — but it wasn’t to be.”
