9,654 Okadas Impounded

The FCT Road Traffic Offences Mobile Court said on Thursday that it has impounded a total of 9,654 motorcycles for flouting the ban on motorcycles within the city centre.

This is contained in a statement issued by Malam Muhammad Sule, the Chief Press Secretary to the FCT Minister, Sen. Bala Mohammed.

It stated that the FCT Administration had concluded arrangements to arraign 94 commercial motorcycle operators at the court soon.

The said that 27 vehicles had also been impounded for various traffic violations in the city.

It stated that the punishment of the offenders was to serve as deterrent to other reckless road users to ensure reduction of traffic violations in the city.

The statement said the owners of the impounded vehicles would be prosecuted and subsequently, compelled to pay demurrage in addition to other charges.

It reiterated that if the owners of the impounded vehicles could not pay the penalty, they would have to forfeit their vehicles.

According to the statement, the administration has succeeded in arraigning 151 traffic offenders before the court.

“A total number of three traffic offenders are currently facing criminal charges for attacking and abducting personnel of the FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Services,” it said.
