Be Chemical Free

Most cosmetics-related chemicals are dangerous because they are toxic to our bodies. They cause a buildup of free radicals and DNA damage. Many cosmetic companies are still using these chemicals in their products and some of them are brands that we trust.

Before you buy any beauty products, look out for the ones that use more of natural ingredients, those that are organic or botanical.

It is difficult to get products that are 100 per cent natural but make sure they are free of “dangerous” chemicals like Propylene Glycol (PG) found in haircare products, cosmetics, after shave, deodorants, mouthwashes, toothpaste or alcohol( Isopropyl), a solvent found in hair colourants, body lotion, and hand lotion. It can cause depression, headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting.

Many of the properties in fragrance are potentially carcinogenic and toxic and can affect the central nervous system causing dizziness, vomiting, and nausea among many others. Carmine in lipsticks, blushers and eye shadows has been connected to heart problems. Methylisothiazolinone is a preservative with the potential to cause skin reactions and allergies irritation. So also is paraffin used in moisturisers, eyebrow pencils, wax hair removers and much more.

The bottom line is try to be as natural as possible. Try as much as possible to reduce the amount of times you use products containing chemicals, you would be doing your skin, hair, body and immune system a world of good.

Organic shampoos do not lather as much due to the absence of sodium laureth sulphate, but your hair will stillĀ  be clean after all. Oily hair tends to be less oily as the chemicals in shampoo are being absorbed into your scalp causing the sebaceous glands to over act. Dry hair benefits because it is not being stripped of all goodness.

This applies to other products: cleansers make up, body lotions, etc.
