Osun demolishes offices for market
All the courts, including the Chief, the Senior, the Magistrates’ and the Family Courts in the old Governor’s Office in Osogbo, capital of Nigeria’s State of Osun have been demolished.
Governor Rauf Aregbesola had in June, said the premises would be reverted to a market as was initially planned.
Some Federal Government agencies like the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) were also located in the area.
A government official, said in Osogbo on Friday, that the demolition was in compliance with the quit notice earlier given to the occupiers of the premises by the State Government.
Mr Muyiwa Adegoke, a neighbour, said the old governor’s office was a market built by the Osogbo Local Government and later taken over by the state government.
“I was born and raised in this area and I have been following the policies of different administrations since the time of the first military administration in Osun.”
The clearing of the site began in June following the decision of the state government to build a new market named Ayegbaju on it.
Some of the affected organisations had been compensated by the state government.
