Mexico win Olympic football gold medal
Brazil Under 23 was left devastated at Wembley Stadium by a fired Mexican team this afternoon, losing the Olympic football gold medal 1-2.
Brazil, a footballing power yet to win an Olympic gold was undone by Mexico’s Oribe Peralta’s double.
Peralta struck after just 30 seconds slicing the ball past the Brazilian keeper, after a defensive error.
The Mexican striker sealed one of the all-time great Olympic upsets when he scored again late in the second half.
Hulk got one back for Brazil in stoppage-time but Mexico, playing in their first Olympic final, were deserved winners as Brazil once again failed to end their long wait for a first football gold.
South Korea had earlier beaten Japan 2-0 for the bronze.
