Police DIG Leha heads B Department

Nigeria’s Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Philemon Leha, decorated on Monday with her new title, has been posted to the “B’’ Department (Operations) at the force headquarters.

According to CSP Frank Mba, the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Leha replaces the late DIG Haruna John, who died in a police helicopter crash in February in Jos.

“By virtue of his current rank and posting, DIG Philemon Leha automatically becomes a member of the Police Management Team (PMT) which serves as a mini “Police Governing Council,” the statement said.

Mba stated that nine Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) had been posted to various zonal commands and formations across the country.

They are Muktari Ibrahim (Zone 6, Calabar), Mohammed Abubakar ( Zone 10, Sokoto), Tambari Mohammed (Zone 3, Yola) and Ibrahim Abdu ( Zone 12, Bauchi).

Others are Christopher Dega (Commandant, Police Academy, Kano), Aliyu Musa (Border Patrol FHQ, Abuja), Bala Hassan (Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos), Alex Okeke (Police Medical Services, FHQ, Abuja) and Julius Ishola (Police Veterinary Services, FHQ, Abuja).

The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar reminded the officers of their huge responsibilities and urged them to bring their professionalism, skills and experiences to bear in discharging their duties.

Meanwhile, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of Mr Johnson Ogunshakin to a substantive Commissioner of Police (CP) with effect from Aug. 1.

Until his elevation, Ogunshakin was the Acting Commissioner of Police in the Special Fraud Unit (SFU).
