Golf: Ikoyi Club 1938 Set For 16th Nigeria Cup

The Ikoyi Club 1938 is set to host the 2012 edition of the Nigeria Cup, the most prestigious golf tournament in the country, from 22-30 September.

The one week golf championship, which willl take place at the Golf Section of the club,  is staged annually to celebrate Nigeria’s Independence anniversary.

Chairman of the Organising Committee, Tayo Babalakin said the Children’s Competition and Prize Giving Ceremony will flag off this year’s event on Saturday, 22 September. This will be followed by the Caddies Competition and Prize Giving Ceremony on Monday, 24 September, which will be Day Two of the competition.

The Ladies will have their own tournament and presentation on Tuesday; while the Independence (4 Clubs) Kitty will hold on Wednesday, fourth day of the tournament.

On Thursday, 27 September, the Professional and Semi Pro (Invitational) will take the stage. On Friday, the sixth day, Guests and Veterans will take to the Golf Course after which there will be a Cocktail party.

The Nigeria Cup Competition and grand finale will hold on the seventh day on Saturday, 29 September.

The presentation and closing ceremony will be a dinner party to be held on Sunday, 30 September at the Civic Centre in Victoria Island.

Babalakin, who is also the current Vice Captain of the Golf Section, noted that the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the championship will see ensure that the Nigeria Cup remains the most celebrated tournament  in Nigeria.

It would be recalled that Admiral Taiwo Odedina ( retd),  won last year’s competition after he carded a net score of 73, beating his closest rival to the trophy, Uche Obodoekwe, who signed for a net score of 74, by just a shot.
