Insecurity: Police seek cooperation with NURTW
In an effort to stem the rising wave of violent attacks and loss of lives and properties, the Nigeria Police leadership on Thursday sought the support and collaboration of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, over the nation’s security challenges on the roads and motor parks.
Addressing national and state Executives of the Union at Force Headquarters in Abuja, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, directed the leadership of the transport body to immediately arrange a meeting with state Police Commissioners of their domain to fashion out ways on areas of cooperation to fight criminal activities in the country.
The police boss expressed dissatisfaction with the behaviour and conduct of the transport union members in the country adding that recent trends indicated that members of the union aid and fuel crimes and criminalities in the country.
He also called on all Nigerians to make haste and update all their vehicle particulars in order to avoid embarrassment from security agencies as imminent checks will soon be embarked upon.
In a response to the police boss charge, the transport union’s National President, Mr. Usman Yasin, expressed readiness to collaborate with the Police to fight crimes in motor parks and roads in the country.
He appreciated the effort of the IGP in removing all kinds of road blocks mounted by the Police and appealed to states government to also emulate the style of the Police by removing road blocks mounted by revenue officers.
