Wife of former Governor of Lagos state, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has explained why she sponsored second U-12 Muniru Muse Cup
Mrs.Tinubu, who is representing Lagos Central Senatorial District in the Senate, told journalists in Lagos that sponsoring a grassroots football tournament in her constituency will help the youth to discover their talents in the round leather game.
She disclosed that Muse Cup will keep the youths busy, especially when the schools are on vacation.
She further explained that Senator Muse, in whose honour the competition is being staged, has contributed his quota to the development of Lagos Central Senatorial District when he was in the Senate.
“I really appreciate what my father, Senator Muse did when he was a serving senator of our constituency. That’s why I want to honour him by taking up the sponsorship of this tournament from the second edition this year,” she said.
Muse thanked Mrs. Tinubu for her contribution to football development in Lagos.
In his own remark, chairman of Lagos State Grassroots Soccer Association, Alhaji Nurudeen Agara expressed gratitude to Mrs. Tinubu for her kind gesture, and promised to organise a befitting tournament.
Meanwhile, 16 teams are taking part in the competition, which kicked off last weekend.
Action continues today at the Evans Square football pitch, Ebute-Metta, where Double Star face Zamadek FC and Santos FC take on Coker FC.
